2003 Ford Taurus Spark Plug and Wire Replacement
Complaint:
Engine Misfires - Rough Idle - Loss of Power A 2003 Ford Taurus with
3.0 Liter engine has a rough idle. It has 67,000 miles and no mechanical
work has been done on the engine. The engine has been well maintained with frequent
oil changes, filters, and flushes, however the spark plugs has not be changed since purchase.
The YouTube video above shows how to access and replace spark plugs
and spark plug wires. The spark plugs on the back side of the engine was a real pain.
You'll need a spark plug socket, swivel joint, and a ratchet.
Also, you'll need some anti-seize compound to prevent spark plugs from seizing into the head, and
use a little dielectric grease to prevent wires and terminal corrosion.
Caution: do not remove spark
plugs on an engine when it is hot. Allow sufficient cooling time
- particularly on engines with aluminum heads because the spark plugs threads
may become damaged when spark plugs are removed. To identify the correct engine size, check VIN code for a "2" or "U" in the 8th digit.
How to Test an Ignition Coil Pack - Best Testing Procedure Ratchets And Wrenches
Cause: Defective Ignition
Coil Pack After replacing the new
spark plugs, wires, and air filter - I started the engine feeling assured
this would fix the misfiring problem. Well, it didn't! So I found
another video "How to Test an Ignition Coil Pack." I like this video because
it is ideal for do-it-yourself enthusiasts because you only need a few
spare parts to make a testing tool (namely an old spark plug and a 3" piece
of rubber tubing to make a spark tester. Watch the YouTube video above for
quick test procedures for the ignition coil. If you have technical
knowledge about engines - use the YouTube video below. In this video, the technician is
explaining coil pack failures and misfires
when wet.

Correction: Replace Ignition
Coil Pack with OEM Parts After installing the new
ignition coil with an OEM model - the car started-up quickly and ran like
a "champ." Like any good technician - you should always ask the next question before installing new parts in an engine - Why did this coil fail? Was it because of excessive
heat, vibration, poor quality parts or what? I found a Motorcraft Ignition
